MIDDLESBROUGH ART WEEK 2023
In preparation for as well as during the MAW 2023, I worked with the Middlesbrough community in a number of ways to develop creative interactions and engagement with themes of measure and time. These activities included outreach to community groups and sample sessions as well as opportunities to engage with activities while visting MAW.
Community Responses at MAW
Rooted in Nature Workshop
Working alongside the leaders and members of Rooted in Nature, I devised a workshop thinking about natural elements, growth and evolution of organic matter as well as imagery over time. Using found elements from the garden as well as charcoal, coffee and berries, we created responses as individuals and as a group. By utilising berries to make our own inks and coffee to create paint, we explored sensory elements.
"I just wanted to say a massive thanks for the session - it was so much enjoyed by all. You and your colleagues should be so proud of the work you do. I don't think any of the folks I came with would otherwise have engaged with an event like this had this little thread of connection not been followed so thoughtfully. You created lasting and happy memories in lives where they are often lacking." Catherine
