Photographs by Rachel Deakin
Propagation III continues the theme of reproduction and maternal care within an industrialised patriarchal model. It draws upon matrescence theories and reference the abject within feminist art practices. Propagation III, inspired in part by personal experiences, also responds to the unabashed stripping of humanity by theocracy and autocracy within the current political climate and a sense that the world is spiralling towards an Atwoodian dystopia. The work aims to draw attention to the impact of current socio-political shifts towards curtailing reproductive autonomy.
