Propagation II, 2025

Concrete, Velvet, Paper Pulp Bedpans, Reclaimed Oak, Acrylic Disc

Photographs by Rachel Deakin

Propagation II focuses on birth. A trinity of paper pulp bedpans are elevated by handmade reclaimed oak lecterns. Red velvet fabric flows over and between the bedpans which each house a heavy cast concrete form. There is an intention here to highlight the duality of birth, its high and low status, the sacred and the profane. Symbolically placed upon the floor, the viewer looks down upon the work. Almost fully contained within the circle the trio of sculptures are afforded a slight elevation by the acrylic disc. However, the red fabric, by touching the floor at a single point, suggests contamination.
